President Mamnoon Hussain was born on December 23, 1940 at Agra, British India.
He migrated to Pakistan in 1949 with his entire family.
Mr. Mamnoon Hussain received his education in Karachi. He did his B.Com (Hons.) from Karachi University in 1963, and then joined the prestigious Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi from where he completed his M.B.A. in 1965.He joined his father’s factory on completion of his education. Later, he shifted to textile business.
He has been an active political worker since 1968, when he joined the Muslim League, Karachi and was appointed its Joint Secretary. He joined the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), PML(N), in 1993, when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was removed from office by the then President. He was appointed the Finance Secretary of the PML (N), Sindh. In 2001, he was appointed the General Secretary of the PML (N), Sindh, and continued in this office until 2005. After some time, he was appointed the Acting President of the PML(N) Sindh. In recognition of the meritorious service for his party, in 2005, he was appointed Senior Vice President (SVP) of the PML (N) and Member of the Central Executive Committee.
In 1997-98, he was appointed Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh. In 1999, he was elected as the President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), the largest business chamber of the country. In June 1999, he was appointed as Governor of Sindh, but his term was cut short on October 12, 1999 when the PML (N) government was removed. He was a political prisoner when he raised his voice against the then dictatorial regime.
Mr. Mamnoon Hussain was elected the 12th President of Pakistan as the official nominee of the PML (N) in a landslide electoral victory, and took the oath of office on September 09, 2013. He has resigned from the PML (N) as he believes that the President is a symbol of the Federation, and represents the unity of the Republic, and, therefore, should be apolitical. Mr. Mamnoon Hussain is known as a man of impeccable integrity and courage against all political odds. He is extremely interested to develop the education sector in Pakistan.
